A group of law firms have helped US insurance company Assurant sell back stakes in assets in Argentina, Brazil and Colombia to Mexican local services assistance company Iké Grupo Empresarial, in a deal worth for US$40 million.

Assurant turned to Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York; Nader, Hayaux & Goebel in Mexico City, Marval O'Farrell Mairal in Buenos Aires; Machado Meyer Advogados in São Paulo and Brigard Urrutia in Bogotá.

Iké’s counsel has asked to remain confidential. The deal closed on 11 May.

Assurant had acquired a 40% stake in Iké's subsidairy Iké Asistencia in 2013, and passed on the option to take 100% control in 2019, deciding instead to sell back to the original owner.

Iké Asistencia offers a wide range of services, including medical, legal and educational advice. It operates in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and in Puerto Rico.

Assurant is a Fortune 500 company headquartered in New York. It has wide international operations, including a Latin American presence in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.
