Machado Meyer Advogados has helped Brazilian retailer Magazine Luiza acquire logistics software business SincLog and transport company GFL Logística in two separate deals.

Magazine Luiza bought Sinclog through its subsidiary Softbox Sistemas de Informação. Local firm Gasparini Nogueira de Lima Barbosa Advogados helped Sinclog. The deal was signed on 1 October.

In the second transaction, Magazine Luiza acquired GFL Logística, a local logistics platform for e-commerce, through its subsidiary Magalu Log Serviços Logísticos. The target is thought to have enlisted Ferreira e Ferreira Advogados, but this could not be confirmed by Latin Lawyer prior to publication. The deal closed on 25 September.

The value of both deals is confidential.

GFL Logística has a large presence in the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais. The company uses technology software SincLog to manage cargo, issue invoices and control freight spreadsheets, among other things.

With the acquisitions, Magazine Luiza aims to reduce business costs and delivery times and significantly expand its services, including collection and last-mile delivery, which refers to the last stage of the delivery process.

Magazine Luiza is one of Brazil's largest retailers. Last December, it raised 4.3 billion reais (US$1 billion) through a follow-on issuance on the São Paulo stock exchange, B3.
